Rudely Interrupted

September 14, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Rudely Interrupted is a six-piece indie band from Australia which has been invited to play at the UN’s global headquarters in New York to mark International Day of People with Disabilities on December 3, 2008.

The reason this is relevant to this blog is that five out of six members of the band have a range of intellectual and physical disabilities (blindness, deafness, Aspergers, autism and Down syndrome). More importantly though, they write a cracking good indie tune, as you can see from their first single:

Described as “Joy Division having a Gary Numan party while eating pitch perfect cookies” the band write song about their experiences, which, as the song title “Don’t Break My Heart” indicates, are not necessarily different fro anyone else’s.

In order to fund the band’s trip to New York and a small tour taking in London, Bristol and Manchester., the band attempting to raise $60,000 (that’s Australian dollars I assume). You can donate here and find out more about Rudely Interrupted here on MySpace or here on iTunes.
